Maritime Cyber Warfare: Emerging Strategies and Doctrines

This talk examines the latest trends in maritime cyber warfare, detailing how cyber operations may affect the maritime security environment and naval strategy and doctrine. The talk presents evidence and analysis from a range of policy and academic sources with a particular emphasis on the East Asian maritime environment (East and South China Seas, Taiwan Strait - US, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China) and seeks to establish how cyber-attacks might be used in a major maritime conflict between great and middle powers in the region. The paper argues for a conception of maritime cyber security that connects the maritime domain with the other operational domains of land, air and space, and assesses the extent of readiness of the great powers for a maritime cyber war.
